Vijay Devarakonda's Arjun Reddy Movie Review

24 August 2017

Vijay Devarakonda’s Arjun Reddy is undoubtedly the recent film that has created a huge buzz after a long time in Tollywood especially with the youth. From past few years, Tollywood has seen love stories and youthful comedies but not a gusty-class film that is close to youth’s hearts.

Arjun Reddy Trailer raised the expectations on the movie. Be it the bold dialogues or the kisses. The Pre-release function of Arjun Reddy was also in news especially because of Vijay Devarakonda’s speech who found fault with the censor board for removing few dialogues in the movie. Many said Vijay at this point in his career should not be too confident and should learn how to speak in public functions. Pre-booking was very good in Hyderabad for Arjun Reddy.

Let’s see if it lived up to the expectations or not :

Story : Medical College Student Arjun Reddy ( Vijay Devarakonda) is a short tempered guy who has no control on his anger. He falls in love with his Junior Preeti ( Shalini). Both the lovers share a close relationship until Preeti’s father decided to marry her to a boy of their caste.  This break-up turns Arjun Reddy in to an Alcoholic and a drug addict. Movie is about the various phase of Arjun Reddy’s life where he regains his senses from being an alcoholic/drug addict to a normal person.

Performances:

Vijay Devarakonda stands out in this film. Vijay has really shown what acting is and sticked to the character of the film. We can observe the new comers including the actors from the so-called film families trying to do “acting” by imitating their family heroes and trying to “shout-out” punch dialogues. Vijay Devarakonda is definitely a hero to watch out for in Tollywood.  One can see how he put in heart and soul in to the character of Arjun Reddy in the film. He will defeanately fill in the gap that is vacant in Tollywood for “Shiva” type “Angry” young man’s.

Shalini did her best to fit into the role but is clearly overshadowed by Vijay Devarakonda’s performance.

Rahul Ramakrishna who played the role of Hero’s friend in the movie deserves a pat on his back. He is also a good find to Tollywood. He did acted well and generated the needed comedy in the film.

Kamal Kamaraju and Yesteryear actress Kanchana are good.

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga made a good debut with Arjun Reddy. He is good find for Tollywood who is looking for class – sophisticated directors. The way he presented Vijay Devarakonda talks about his skills. Arjun Reddy subject is raw and intense, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga succeeded in showing that. He will for sure will get the required attention for his work.

To conclude, Arjun Reddy is a new age Tollywood film that is intense and raw. Youth will relate themselves with the break-up, alcoholic- drug addiction episodes and on anger management. The second half is too lengthy. At least 20 minutes of the movie can easily be trimmed. Film will surely do well in A centers.

Verdict : Go for it .
